Sandpiper?
Can you have completely white sandpipers? This was taken at North Dock Llanelli yesterday, so is unlikely to be anything too exotic. It was about the size of a gull.
There are now breeding colonies of them popping up all over the place. I know of several in Cornwall and have one a few hundred yards away from my flat in North London.
Many thanks, all. "Unlikely to be anything too exotic" meant that the Little Egret was the only thing that matched in my copy of Birds of Britain and Europe, but as they aren't supposed to be found more than about 100 miles from the Mediterranean it couldn't be that.
Egret says my daughter.
ReplyDeleteA Little Egret.

I agree - an Egret it is. I sometimes see them at Salcombe.

ReplyDeleteHow wrong!
"...they aren't supposed to be found more than about 100 miles from the Mediterranean..."
ReplyDeleteThere were plenty of them sunning themselves up at Saltholme RSPB reserve in Middlesbrough just a few weeks ago! Proper Costa del Sol it is up here...
