I will tip my hat to Cathcon, but with heavy heart. Bishop Hollis of Portsmouth is at it again.
This time he wants to legalise prostitution.
"If you are going to take a pragmatic view and say prostitution happens, I think there's a need to make sure it's as well-regulated as possible for the health of people involved and for the safety of the ladies themselves.
That's not to say I approve of prostitution in any way. I don't. I would be very much happier if there was no prostitution in Portsmouth or anywhere else because I do regard those involved in any way as involved in some form of immorality.
But it's going to be there whatever we do – it has been from time immemorial, so I think that's something we have to be realistic about."
I like the idea that something that has been around since time immemorial can suddenly, now we are in 2007, be sorted out.
This is the New Labour, Spirit of Vatican II, idea that changing things solves them; that novelty is a substitute for truth; that we, today, have solutions to all of the things which have plagued mankind since the Fall.
No hint from the Bishop that the problem might be rampant sexuality. No hint that people living well-ordered lives might act as examples to their neighbours. No hint that prostitution is both a sin itself and a cause of sin.
No mention of sin, actually.
In what morass have we sunk, and who has guided us there?

I find this utterly appaling.
On thursday 15th November I will be walking from Wesley Church to Parliament House, here in Western Australia to protest at the proposed legislation to allow legal brothels in WA. If this legislation goes through then I could find a brothel set up next door to me. One local Council shut down such a brothel in its jurisdiction only last week but if this legislation goes through then it will no longer have that power.
It goes without saying that Jim McGinty is an apostate Catholic who joined the Communist Party in his youth and has a family history of priests and nuns. He is our Attorney General and he is the one pushing for this legislation!
Because we have a totally dominated Labor government there is every chance that this legislation will pass (in our State). Should John Howard lose this Election on November 24th then we will have such governments in every State and Federaly too. What a bleak prospect!
Prostitution is a form of slavery. The women become trapped in a situation which they fall into because of their need to support their drug habits and then they cannot get out. Our Archbishop has supported the settin up of a "safe " house for such women, run by a former "Madam" who has turned away from such things. She has been subjected to threats and the house has been fire-bombed.
The existence of legalised prositution can only be supported by those who either:-
a) know nothing about prostitution
b) expect to gain from the industry
I wonder which category Bishop Hollis falls?!
JARay
Oh boy... this Bishop really does suffer from foot-in-mouth disease... or maybe he just needs a brain transplant.
