Fasten your seatbelts, we're going to have something very extraordinary today! We're going to have a normal Sunday! Put out those green vestments!

And at Vespers, too. There was one on January 22, but it was only commemorated at both Vespers.

And the thing is...

in a Calendar continued without the change of 1911, but remaining in general updating, we wouldn't have the green Sunday even today.

We'd have, certainly at your place in England: St. Thomas More Martyr, double of the II class, red. First and Second Vespers of the Martyr, Com. of the Sunday and of St. Elizabeth or the Seven Holy Brothers respectively; also red.

And it's quite possible it would be a minor double in the rest of the world. (Or a semidouble, and then he would give way to the Sunday - but only because he was a layman, not because he was not otherwise important enough for a double. I'm not sure though whether the apparent rule that laymen don't get doubles except locally really applies to martyrs; though the seem to have applied it to St. Justin.)

Thanks, Nepomuk.

The tyranny of green is a particular bugbear of mine, as is the expression 'Ordinary Time'.
